Although you're not required to do any learning outside of the classes, if you want to find out more there are a lot of resources available. On this page we list some that our members and instructors have found useful, but we are not responsible for any content. They are not all longsword resources, but include a variety of weapons.
There are many manufacturers around, but not all will provide equipment of sufficient quality for HEMA. These are some options, but there are more - if you find something you're not sure about talk to one of the instructors. Generally be careful with the gear you buy, as your safety and that of other students relies on it. Some items in these shops are designed for sport fencing and will not be appropriate for HEMA. Some styles of sword (for example, the Regenyei tulip feders) are not always allowed in tournaments. If you're uncertain about anything, ask.
It is usually easier to use the UK distributors unless you want something custom or unusual.
